About Pellizas: Pellizas are a traditional hand woven rag rug from the Dominican Republic. The original Pelliza rugs were made with remnants of clothes and fabric and woven into plastic rice sacs. The fabric, which has to be cut in 5” long strips (approximately), is pushed through holes in the sacks and then knotted.
Pelliza: Weaving Narratives is an ongoing interactive performance series where the artist invites the public to join the labor of creating pellizas. The action and conversations are recorded in audio, video and/or maps.
